Root canals

If you're experiencing severe tooth pain or sensitivity, a root canal may be the solution to save your tooth and restore your comfort. This common dental procedure involves the removal of infected or inflamed tissue from the tooth's inner chamber. After numbing the area with local anesthesia, we will clean, disinfect, and shape the hollowed-out chamber and root canals. The space is then filled with a biocompatible material and sealed to prevent future infection. Root canals are highly effective in not only eliminating pain but also in preserving your natural tooth structure and preventing the spread of infection.

Gum grafts

This treatment involves placing a small and thin layer of new tissue in an area where little or no gum tissue currently exists. The tissue used in this procedure may come from a variety of sources which can also include synthetic tissues which integrate into your gums. This treatment is usually recommended to prevent further gum recession and to cover the surfaces of the roots that have become exposed due to the tissue pulling away from the teeth.

It is oftentimes overlooked as it is a gradual process. However over time it can cause sensitivity to hot or cold and ultimately if left untreated even bone loss. There are several causes for receding gums such as inadequate or excessive brushing, certain poorly fitted mouth appliances that rub against the gums.

While being under local anesthesia the tissue is placed on the area and carefully sutured in place using an extremely thin stitching material. Gum grafting is a generally pain-free surgery and you should experience very little discomfort after the surgery.

Gum treatment

Gum treatment or periodontal treatment is the thorough cleaning of the pockets below the gums around teeth by removing tartar build up and smoothen the surface of the roots (root planing) reducing further tartar buildup and damage to surrounding bone from bacteria.

To help in controlling and removing the bacterial infection completely, patients are also prescribed antibiotics. The treatment is typically done in one or two appointments depending on the condition of the patient. Regular cleanings every 3 months are necessary in order to prevent the bacteria from resurfacing. If these maintenance visits are not maintained the infection-causing bacteria will return as it is a chronic and long term disease. To increase the effectiveness of the treatment it is very important that patients maintain a very good oral hygiene and stop the use of tobacco.

When tartar builds up underneath the gums and is left untreated, bacteria accumulates and spreads causing inflammation due to the immune system’s reaction and ultimately causing tooth loss. The bacteria may also aggravate existing health conditions and increase the risks of serious illnesses.

Sinus lifts

A sinus lift is a surgery where the sinus membrane, which is as thick as an eggshell membrane, is moved upwards and lifted in order to make room for bone to be added. Patients typically undertake this surgery when an implant has to be placed in their upper jaw however there isn’t enough bone for it to anchor and secure itself and therefore being able to support more demanding tasks such as eating and chewing. Bone loss can occur for several reasons such as gum disease and prolonged tooth loss.

Bone graft

Bone grafting is the process of adding and regenerating bone around the root of the toot. This treatment is typically required if a patient does not have enough bone for a dental implant to anchor itself safely and securely.

The bone may be taken from either your own body or other external sources and usually take several months to properly integrate itself to the existing bone and regenerate itself allowing enough density for implants to be securely placed.

Nightguard & equilibration

A nightguard is an acrylic based mouthpiece worn while sleeping. It is used to treat several issues such as clenching and grinding (bruxism) while sleeping as well as disorders with the temporomandibular joint (TMJ).

The TMJ is a complex joint that connects the lower jaw to the side of the skull for which a common symptom is persistent jaw pain. Bruxism is a common issue that can create headaches when waking up, jaw soreness and lack of sleep amongst other symptoms. Long term and chronic bruxism however is harmful to the teeth and can cause them to chip, break and erode the enamel.

Nightguards work by reducing the tension and relaxing the jaw muscles while sleeping as the jaw moves lower to position itself properly. Unlike softer mouthguards they are precisely fitted to your bite and teeth so that the contact surfaces are protected against one another. Once initially fitted it may take several adjustment appointments every 30 days so that the guard is fitted as precisely as possible to your teeth and bite.

Plasma-Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF)

PRGF, which stands for Plasma Rich in Growth Factors, is a therapeutic approach that uses the body's own resources to heal and regenerate tissues. This technique is used in various fields of medicine, including dentistry, orthopedics, dermatology, and cosmetic surgery.

The PRGF process involves drawing a small amount of the patient's blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the other components. This plasma, rich in growth factors (proteins that stimulate cell growth), is then activated and applied to the treatment area to stimulate and accelerate tissue healing and regeneration.

In dentistry, PRGF might be used to promote faster healing after tooth extractions, dental implant surgeries, or to treat periodontal (gum) disease. It's generally well-tolerated because it uses the patient's own biological materials, reducing the risk of allergic reactions or infections.
